Water

1. We all know that water is important but I’ve never seen it written down like this before.

2. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world population)

3. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.&

4. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%.

5. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U- Washington study.

6. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

7. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

8. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

9. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

COKE

1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the “real thing” sit for one hour, then flush clean The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil
dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of
Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, Remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

For Your Info:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its Ph is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of WATER
or COKE ?

  • ftw
    COKE OF COURSE!

THINK HOW CLEAN MY STOMACH WILL BE
  • Aitrus
Now I dont like coke myself, but MythBusters and possibly on Snopes.com you can find out that half that stuff about coke isnt true. It doesnt help a rusted bolt, it doesnt clean off a car battery, and it wont clean a chrome bumper.

The facts about water however, I think are all true.
  • james
The info on water is true, though some is inflated. All the info on Coke is false. I am all for increasing water consumption to better health. For example, increasing water intake can help people with chronic bronchitis (like me) and other respiratory problems by thinning the mucus.

but scare tactics that are blatant lies don't do any good. That only turns people off.
  • Maddy
Wow. That is amazing. Soda muct be very bad for you i guess... well i am not going to be drinking coke for a while. lol
  • keith
well i think i will still stick to soda.... it tastes better than water... the bottled and tap water all taste bad to me... soda just tastes good... and ive been a month wihtout drinkin a glass of water for a month now... and im really healthy and whatnot... so idk the only difference ive noticed is instead of weighin 135-145 i now weigh about 155.... not that big o deal... i mean it keeps me warm in da winter
  • Mesh24
Man, you don't sound healthy. You can barely type a comprehensive sentence.
  • Shantri.dk
Your lack of basis knowledge towards a healthy body, is gonna be your own early death. We all have to make decisions in our live... some worse than others.
  • I already began to drink just water(even no tea, no coffee and so), I knew that Coke is not healthy but I drink it so rarely just when I feel dizzy...
  • snowman bill
are you nuts? its unamerican to not love coke. Ive been drinking this all my life. even if you eat and drink all the right stuff your still going to die. look I dont want to live any longger then I have to in this arm pit they call life.Im going to eat what I want and drink my coke.I want to have a coke in my cold dead hand when I go!!!
  • geofflll
It's also un-American to be healthy. So what does that tell you?
  • You all are worried about the wrong chemicals.

I live in Atlanta and the Coca-Cola company, a business partner, has probably has funded much of what I have earned. Classic Coke is okay but the sugar will kill you over time . . . what will hurt many people sooner is the Nutrasweet in Diet Coke . . . look into it and realize that the FDA was stacked to create its approval (denied multiple times earlier), trials in which many monkey died were declared invalid since their handler mysteriously died; Don Rumsfeld (yes) had a brief corporate career just long enough to CEO the company during the time it was brought to market; brain cancers spiked incredibly a couple of years after the introduction of Diet Coke, one of the first huge consumer contracts.

Notice that enough people know that our vaunted Coke company has had to introduce an alternative diet coke with another less toxic sweetener.

And, yah, I don't know whats with snopes.com on things like this -- all facts above are admitted and undeniable. snopes used to be reliable.

And the WATER . . . don't get me started. Just remember it is delivered by your government, hopefully locally, yours is good.
  • Where are your references? I agree coke is probably bad for you and people eat too many dehydrated foods and don't drink enough water but these facts are just pulled out of yours or somebody else's poohole.
  • TKD
I think perhaps these claims are a bit inflated. I agree that soda is bad for you but not because it may or may not do the things listed above. I mean, vinegar does some pretty awesome stuff as far as being a cleaning agent, and so does lemon juice and baking soda. In fact, I like using them a lot more than I like using store bought chemicals, but I still use them in cooking. Flour and water make a great paste, cornstarch and water make a strange non-Newtonian fluid, peanut butter and/or vegetable oil literally dissolves gum and other adhesives, and I've even used vinegar to kill some small weeds. Simply because the chemical properties of your food can do other things doesn't mean anything. Focusing on the high amount of sugar and the addictive properties of caffeine might be a more realistic route.
  • azwb09
Actually the mention of coke cleaning a car battery is true. Someone I know had problems with their battery in their car being corroded and my dad poured coke on it so he could jump the car and the coke removed most, if not all, of the corrosion.
  • Whall83
Cokes acidity is very high, and will if tested be proven that it will eat off corrosion on a car battery. The fact that it can take off rust will depend on the rust. There are different stages of rust, obviously a car hood that has been sitting in a field for years and has rusted out to the point there is holes in it will not be solved by coke. But to apply it to a chrome bumper and try to apply a top layer of rust off will work.
Semi trucks that haul coke, pepsi etc. all have to have hazardous materials stickers on their truck, but this is not just cans of coke, this is coke in concentrate. The others I am unaware of, but just a little bit of research, and a little less watching tv and all it's truths that it will let you indulge in and you could find some of these things out.
  • Zac
Really a coke will dissolve a nail in 4 days, this just doesn't seem too real to me. It sounds more like a pubic service announcement by a parent to their young impressionable children.
  • andrew
the thing about the battery and chrome is true, I use it myself for my truck.
  • vee
my brother and i were replacing the sewer drains at the end of the bottling line at a coke plant well it had somehow eaten though the pipe and about three to six inches of concrete around the pipe thats only half of it the smell of it all festering in that hole was absolutley putrid
  • Nothing can ever substitute water because it is nature's best gift and it alone can help in healing many illnesses. Coke makes your digestive system weak and puts your teeth at a high risk to decay.
  • Chris
  • Silly people
OK A) SNOPES is NOT an authoritative source in any way. and B) the acid is bad for you not because it will erode your digestive system but for many other reasons.
  • shunha7878
I don't think anybody will see this comment, I stumbled on this and the last comment was on the 14th.
Anyway, these are not facts but old wife's tales. Don't believe me. Try some of the coke facts yourself. Most of you have a coke. Try some of the 8 items and see if it is true. You will see all eight are untrue. The acid in coke is to weak to do anything, and putting coke on something will only make it sticky.
The facts on water are way inflated too. These "facts" about water have been around for most of my life but recently new test have shown most people get plenty of water. Also, drinking too much water can hurt you.
  • Tracy
A can of coke cannot dissolve a T-Bone steak. In fact thats a myth which was busted on t.v. show Myth Busters. Check it out.
  • superdave0469
If you beleive mythbusters you need help. Why not try something really crazt, and do it yourself!!
  • JollyB
Um. If you want to check the veracity of some of these claims, folks, why don't you try them? How difficult is it to find a nail and a can of Coke to test it out?
  • Wow what a lot of information on coke.

You are so right about it having a pH level of 2.8 however I wish you had gone on and stated the human body NEEDS 7.35 to be alkaline.

Let's get one thing straight, coke should be banned, because it is known, it takes 3 gallons of alkaline water to bring the body to that 7.35 in order for your blood to carry the wastes to your liver for disposal.

We all know there is a lot of obese people on this continent, you have just hit the nail right on the head why.

Please visit my blog for lots of information
  • Goon
The reason coke can clean corrosion off of car battery cables is because it's carbonated. Club soda will do the same thing, and it won't make the battery cables all sticky but you still have to scrub a bit after you pour it on no matter what you use.

Besides it's not specifically coke that eats calcium it's cola, saw it done and none of you can compete in the arena of reliable with Bill Nye the effing Science Guy so don't even try it.

Coke's yummy, water rocks, drink more of the latter than the former but some bubbly goodness every once in a while won't kill you and eat your family so relax.
  • Randy
COKE WILL clean your battery terminals. I can't say that another soda won't do the same but I in fact use Coke to clean battery terminals, and have done it many of of times. Maybe it is the carbonation I don't know what causes it but it does work. Try it.
  • regardless of which ones are urban myths, i think we can all say that drinking coke constantly is really bad for you in so many ways. i cut all caffeine, soda, coffee, teas, etc. with amazing results. you should just try it for a month and see how you feel.
  • If this was more widely knows " MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%" would encourage a lot more people to drink water, espically the dieters
  • T
    3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the “real thing” sit for one hour, then flush clean The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

Coca-Cola contains no citric acid. Pepsi is made using citric acid, Coke uses phosphoric acid, one of the major reasons for the difference in taste. Also, these are all applicable for most soda's specifically because of the high acid content, not just Coca-Cola.
  • coke can clean loads of things even brass. which is pretty mad.
  • molly jones
I can't believe people are still promoting this rubbish about cola. And about nearly everyone in the world being dehydrated. Nonsense!
  • Actually, if you check it out on TruthorFiction.com, they say all of them are true except three (not the three you mention, by the way). And they don't say they are false, just unproven.
  • Nope, sorry the info on Coke is not false. I have a friend who works in the hotel business and he told me this story...One night he was managing a huge banquet at the hotel. A large container of Coke syrup got busted and went all over the floor in the back hallway. Everyone was too busy to stop and clean it up, so he was walking through it all night and it covered his boots. When he got home he was so tired he just pulled his boots off and left them by the front door. The next afternoon he went to get his boots and they were hard as cement and the Coke had eaten through the leather of his work boots. He said he hasn't had a Coke since then. Neither have I since he told me that story.
  • John
You're right then, obviously all the Coke info is true. Ha ha ha ha.
  • I would have to agree about the water. I have never been fond of coke but since my heart condition drinking coke is a no no. The amount of cafiene in it sets off my arrythmias. Didn't much like it anyway. I prefer to add a tastey glucosamine supplement to my water.
  • seguromedico
Water is better because it does not have sugar. The rest is cokelore.
  • Leprechaun
Water ain't the saint you think it is... Visit http://www.dhmo.org/ for more information.
  • Silly people
What's the largest single ingredient in coke? GASP...water. In fact try not drinking water and see how that goes for you. And I don't mean a glass of water, I mean diluted into any formula at all. Which really means that you can't eat either...well maybe dry rice and other dehydrated products but...yea...good luck getting enough saliva to eat it. And wow you should read all the studies on how air will give you cancer, perhaps we should stop breathing as well?
  • trustyetverify
Very funny. Dihydrogen Monoxide, eh? Oldest hoax in the book.

I think you mean pH, not Ph
  • Sam
To answer your question. Diet Coke actually sounds GREAT!
  • Angus
The water part isn't true in any absolute sense. It's science, and not religious doctrine. Although i'm positive that most people would benefit from drinking less sugary drinks and more water.
  • nameWQER324T
    I'LL HAVE A COKE!
  • Name
The corrosive tendencies from Coca-Cola come from the carbonation itself. The haz-mat placard statement is a myth, since I have previously worked in the food industry and have seen the delivery trucks myself.

There is no "active ingredient" in Coke. And if there was, it would be carbonic acid, not phosphoric acid. There is no phosphorous in Coke. Carbonic acid comes from the carbon dioxide, which is the gas from carbonation (can you notice the same root?). Not to mention, phosphoric acid can come in different molar strengths.

I highly doubt that in order to clean engines and battery terminals, people resort to dumping high amounts of sugar onto these very expensive and complicated mechanical parts.

Debunking these myths alone calls into question all of your other statements. For further reference, stick to scientific journals, not a website on urban legends.
  • Silly people
Once again, wrong. Most sodas (and coke has an especially high amount) contain phosphoric acid to keep the carbonation bubbles from going flat over a long period of time.
  • trustyetverify
Ingredient listing from the damn coke bottle:

    # Carbonated water
    # Sugar (sucrose or fructose depending on country of origin)
    # Caffeine
    # !!!Phosphoric acid!!!
  • Bassman
This is a fine collection of mythology and urban legend. Good test of people's gullibility though, and an integrity test that the original author failed miserably
  • john2212
Now while many of the above facts remain true, the acid concentration in your stomach is far greater than that of coca-cola...which is where the coca-cola goes...so while it may not be the healthiest choice, the acid really has no affect on us, besides the refreshing taste.
  • Silly people
Different kind of acid. Phosphoric acid neutralizes stomach acid, making it harder to digest and making it harder to absorb calcium.
  • xodkrm
    probly water
  • Aaron
Most of the facts here on water and coke are incorrect. The 8-10 glasses myth is covered here: http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp

  • A little sensationlism towards coke but from a health perspective, water should be your beverage of choice.

  • craigyboy
I do not know about mythbusters or any other evidence other than my own experience. My father was an engineer, and a very good one at that. Like any good tradesman he looked afer his tools. When he had tools returned or passed to him in poor condition, or he found a tool that had been idle for a length of time and had to remove corrosion from the tool he would take the following action; he would not scrub loose rust away, or prepare in any other way; he simply (much to my mothers annoyance) filled a deep baking tray with coca cola and soaked the corroded steel tools in the cola overnight. By the morning the tools needed no more than a dry off and light rub with oil before going back in to his tool box. That was twenty years ago. My parents were never particularly health conscious but cola was never in our house.
  • ALfonso
i truly dont agree on the coke facts, ive had some debates on coke side effects with medicine students and didnt assure that kind of patterns!!
anyway i dislike coke and all too sugary drinks......but overall, i like the informative exposition on water!!
  • Silly people
He gives coke too much health credit. You could go on about how bad it is for you (along with any soda, especially those that use phosphoric acid which is used to prevent carbonation from going flat). The 'leaching' he is referring to is actually due to our body needing to retain a balance between the acid and calcium in our digestive system. In order to deal with this increase the body releases calcium from bones and teeth. So, combined with the incredible amount of sugar in soda you can quickly develop major problems with your teeth.

ON TOP OF THAT, if you're thinking 'well i'll just take calcium supplements to offset this', good luck because the acid also neutralizes hydrochloric acid (stomach acid). Hydrochloric is, on top of digesting a lot of what we eat, essential to our bodies ability to intake calcium. So it leaches calcium AND prevents it from being replaced.

Then combined with massive amounts of sugar that has been proven to cause rotten teeth, obesity and diabetes you've got a fantastic concoction.

And...from personal experience, when I stopped drinking soda and absolutely no other type of food or drink (no increase in physical activity either) I lost 15 lbs in less than a month.

So to those saying that his health info on coke was wrong...I agree...he made it sound WAY too healthy.
  • babyprincess
so maybe i wont be drinkin coke like i use to
  • Michael Greathouse
    I want a diet coke!
  • bob
    yeah, this is all bullshit.
  • billybobt
Y'all sound like a bunch of blithering idiots.

Fact is, anything in moderation, INCLUDING WATER, won't hurt you unless you have some health condition that precludes it. The only thing I've read in all this that makes sense is the part about Nutrasweet being bad for you. I won't drink or eat anything that has aspartame in it. Sucralose and saccharin are much better choices, as well as stevia, but that's more expensive.
  • thinkingoutsidethebox
none of this is true, there no evidence or references to anything to support any ideas are mentioned on this page so I’m guessing this is supposed to humorous? Mythbusters busted this like pervious commenter’s have said.

I'd say Water to coke ratio 30:1 (glasses). Gotta have the taste still!! And for cocaine, what I originally thought this was about, 20000:1, still in glasses so thats like 100g, assuming you drink 9-10 glasses of water a day as you should.
  • I would still prefer water since it could decreases the risk of cancers. By the way I consume 4.5 litres of water daily.

Try Snopes.com on your Coke facts (all wrong). Or do a google on Coca Cola syrup hazardous materilal and you'll see Snopes comes up as one of the first links.

I will say that after drinking Coke I feel a little less healthy, so mostly I try to avoid it!
