Oh wow, it like a kid circles the "x" and draws a arrow and at the end it says "Damn that was hard... Is that the same one for all the other problems? OMG it is. CRAP"

Mad, you aren't the brightest of students. I cannot tell you how many kids think they are being original and cute by writing that little joke.

This picture was distributed in one of my chat rooms. I argued that x% of the students in this class probably would have gotten the right answer or a partial right answer (points taken off for incorrect arithmetic). (99.9-x)%of the students probably would have been clueless. Finally, 0.1% of the students are the ones we should encourage because among them might be another genius who thinks "completely" out of the box. So I agree: This student "might" go places.

    3, 4, 5 right triangle ;D

The person who wrote that went to my school (and she is not the brightest of students), but look at where her joke got her you can see this picture everywhere

From its appearance, this was not actually a test. It looks like the whole thing was done with a computer. (The lack of color variance in the "red ink" markings indicates this came from a "uniform color tool" via computer software.) This "test" occured only in someone's brain. However, IT’S HILARIOUS!!!

So 3squared +4squared = 25 for the person on the top post, good job. It also equals 5squared which is what you were probably going for.

The teacher can rightfully assume that their students understand "find x" to mean "find the value of x." It's called convention, not laziness.
Also, there are two x's in the question, so the joke answer is not correct anyway.
  • Math genius
thats funny i would have argued that and mostly likely gotten marks just not to waste the teachers time arguing about the stupidity of it hahaha
  • Paul Apollonio
Actually, this student's answer is correct. No one told him (her) to calculate the value of "x". It is the exam writer's fault for being lazy and presumptive. By the way x = sq. rt (3 squared + 4 squared) = 5.

Wow. Did you learn that at Midvale: School for the gifted?
