Becouse if we didn't the sun would be up before most people are awake. So by shifting an hour (when everyone sleeps) it will be an hour longer light in the evening. (when Daylight-saving was "invented" they used candles for light, so saving an hour light would save a candle every few days) I can tell wy we use Daylight-savings time.
